The National Arthroplasty Register of the Malawi Orthopaedic Association(NARMOA) moves to LION.

The National Arthroplasty Register of the Malawi Orthopaedic Association (NARMOA) was established in 2005 by surgeons at Beit CURE International Hospital in Blantyre. The register registers all joint replacement surgery done in Malawi with the aim to improve results and patient safety by monitoring what implants and techniques are used.

Due to CURE having ceased to treat adult patients, the NARMOA was transferred to LION in August 2023. LION is currently the only facility offering joint replacement surgery in Malawi.

Mr Chipiliro Moffat is in charge of the day-to-day running of NARMOA and recently relocated from Blantyre to LION. We are very pleased to have him and the NARMOA on board and hope this will be the seed for a centre for national quality registers at LION’s new research centre that is under construction.
